Our Beliefs

First and foremost, we are Christians who look to and follow Jesus Christ, who came into this world and lived for us, died for us, and rose for us, all because of God’s incredible and wonderous love for us. Our sins are paid for entirely by His work on the Cross, and our salvation comes solely of the faith we are given in His completed work, and by this faith, we receive the God’s grace.
We believe that our faith in Jesus Christ comes through the Word and the Sacraments (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper).
We believe that while there is nothing that we can do to add to what Jesus has done for us, that we are nevertheless called in this life to love and serve both God and our neighbors, and that by His grace, God provides our ability to do so.
In order to know and understand God, we look first and foremost to the Bible. We hold that these Holy Scriptures are the inspired and inerrant Word of God, and that God works to give us faith through His Word. We further believe that through His Word, we are given to understand God’s will for how we are to live our lives.
We confess the three ancient Ecumenical Creeds as providing a clear, accurate, and faithful understanding of the three persons of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We further confess the Lutheran Confessions as articulated in the Book of Concord of 1580 because they are drawn from the Word of God, and on that account, we regard their doctrinal content as a true and binding exposition of Holy Scripture and as authoritative.
Finally, Concordia Lutheran Church Maplewood is a faithful member of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
